Auenheim
Auenheim is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.
Geography
Auenheim is a commune of the north of the plain of Alsace, in edge of the Moder. Crossed north in the south by the secondary road n°468 which connects Strasbourg (to 42 km) with Lauterbourg (with 25 km), it is with 20 km in the east of Haguenau. Its accessibility is facilitated by an exchanger on the A35 with 2 km and by the station of Rountzenheim, located at 1 km on the line FOR THE THIRD TIME Strasbourg-Lauterbourg. - Northern Casemate of Auenheim:
- Casemate of isolated infantry, with simple flanking.
- Built in 1932, it sheltered an officer, a warrant officer and 20 troops.
- Dimensions on the overall ground: 25 X 15 meters. Height 7,50 meters. Thickness of the concrete carcass work paves 2 meters, walls exposed 2,25 m, back walls 1 Mr.
- Armement: a gun of 37 mm, 3 twinnings of machine-guns of 7,5 mm, 5 FM, 2 mortars of 50 mm, chutes grenade thrower.
- Historical: In 1939-40 the work was held by a detachment of the 68e Régiment of Infantry of Fortress which resisted the German pressure until July 1st, 1940, that is to say 6 days after the date of coming into effect of the armistice (June 25th, 1940).
