Audio-visual institute of the Communication of French Polynesia - ICA

Created in 1984, I.C.A. (Institution of the Audio-visual Communication) is today the audio-visual memory of the French Polynésie. Since 2005, the institute is member of the International federation of the Files of Television (F.I.A.T.). The Buildings of the establishment are siyuée on the Putiaoro hill of the district of the Mission with PAPEETE on the island of Tahiti.

Rich funds ICA of approximately 25.000 references is composed of documentary, institutional videograms, of many television programs, several hundreds of hours of images devoted to Polynesia.

Thanks to acquisitions of documents coming from Europe, of the United States, of Australia and with the voluntary deposits of the Polynesians, the ICA constitutes little by little a single collection of audio-visual files devoted to Polynesia since the origins of the cinema at our days.

Missions

During the year 2003, the missions of the Institute of the Audio-visual Communication were centred around the conservation and of the valorization of the audio-visual heritage of French Polynesia.

The deliberation n° 2002-171/APF of December 12th, 2002 defines in its article 2, the missions of the establishment:

1) Conservation of the audio-visual heritage of French Polynesia:

  • To ensure the collection of the audio-visual programs;

  • To preserve and restore the funds;
  • To allow accessibility the audio-visual documents.

2) The valorization of the audio-visual heritage of French Polynesia:

  • To develop the exploitation of the funds;

  • To develop the files with fine scientists, educational and cultural.
