Audinghen

Audinghen is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Geography

The territory of the commune of Audinghen, which comprises the Cape Gray-Nose, is the French territory nearest to England.

History

Nommé Odingehem by the Saxon ones which established a sanctuary dedicated to the Odin god to with it, Audinghen, village martyr, was rebuilt several times after being completely destroyed and in particular:

  • in 1643 or 1644, according to interpretations, by a party of roughneck soldiers of king d' Angleterre, who burned the population of the village to the interor of the church;
  • three centuries later, in 1943, always by the English, who bombarded and shaved completely the borough, then occupied by the German army.
