Audi R8 (racing racing car)

The Audi R8 is a car of competition belonging to the category LMP900 (become LMP1 ) of the tests of endurance, such as the 24 hours of Mans, ALMS or the series LMS. This prototype was designed and developed by Audi Sport , with the support of the Italian manufacturer Dallara, which dealt with the manufacture of the hull carbon.
The car is equipped with an engine 3,6 liter turbocompressé V8 using technology FSI (direct injection gasoline) producing nearly 600 horses.
It was based on the prototype R 8R, which ran into 1999 to the 24:00 of Mans. R8 gained 5 times on the circuit of the Sarthe between 2000 and 2005, being only beaten in 2003 by Bentley EXP Speed 8 (developed starting from Audi R8C of 1999)
A single series, Audi R8 " Crocodile" ran on the circuit of Adelaide in 2000. A miniature model also exists, at Maisto, left in April 2001.
It is at the wheel of Audi R8, during tests on the circuit of Lausitzring that Michele Alboreto finds death on April 25th, 2001.
It is replaced by the Audi R10 with turbo engine diesel V12 TDI as from the 24 hours of Mans 2006.
