Auchy-lès-Hesdin

Auchy-lès-Hesdin is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Its inhabitants is called Alciaquois.

Geography

Auchy-lès-Hesdin is located in the territory of the Seven valleys , in the middle of the Pas-de-Calais. One finds in Auchy-lès-Hesdin of many trade, but more especially superb hiking and cyclists.

Auchy-lès Hesdin is very appreciated tourists for its abbey, his fall of water (the commune is crossed by the Ternoise, affluent of the Canche), but also for its generous fleurissement.

The common one knew to evolve/move while keeping intact its historical heritage, in particular industrial with the Filauchy factory, closed in 1989. Thus, the commune has sporting infrastructures (synthetic football stadium, room multi-sports, grounds, tennis courts) and cultural (media library, cybercentre) not very current in a commune of this size. Note besides that the college is smallest of the department of many pupils. Auchy Hesdin accommodates also the pupils of primary education and nursery school of the surrounding communes.

Places and monuments

Formerly called Auchy-the-Monks, the locality owes his origin with the monastery rested by Sylvain saint, from Toulouse towards 700. Destroyed by the Norman ones, the convent was raised in XIe century by the counts d' Hesdin, and was entrusted into 1072 to the Benedictines of Saint-Bertin (see Saint-Omer). The piles of the nave and the first span of the chorus of abbey go up in the middle of XIIe century, those of the two last spans of the chorus around 1200. They are the only vestiges of the primitive church, which had to be almost entirely rebuilt after its collapse, which has occurred in 1280. In 1415, one buried there several of the killed knights with Azincourt, of which the admiral of France, Jacques de Châtillon. A score of years later, the permanent state of war forced the monks to desert the abbey, where they returned only in 1457. Devastated by the troops on several occasions during XVIe century, set fire to in 1537, the buildings were restored at the beginning of XVIIe. They were transformed into spinning mill after the Revolution, and finally destroyed after a fire in 1834, except for the abbey one. Dedicated to Georges saint, this one presents an original frontage, where superimpose a gate of XIIIe century, a large neogothic window, and a traditional pinion finished by a pediment added about 1840 the unit is framed high polygonal turrets capped at the XVIIIe century of picturesque slate roofs. Inside, the central vessel includes/understands seven spans barlongues, finished by an apse with sides, and covered with vaults rebuilt in 1616 on a level lower than that of the vaults of origin, which had crumbled in XVIe century.
