Aubigny-on-Nère

Aubigny-on-Nère is a common department of the Cher, chief town of canton, in the area Center, in France. The inhabitants are Albiniens and Albiniennes. It takes seat in the natural area of the Sologne, with the limit of the Country-Extremely, in the old province of Berry.

History
Almost six centuries ago, Charles VII gives the town of Aubigny to Jean Stuart de Darnley the (1423), most prestigious of the chiefs of the Scottish army which allowed him to put a term at the Guerre One hundred Year old in the name of the Auld Alliance (treated of mutual assistance between France and the Scotland concluded in XIIIe century). Bérault and Robert Stuart, comrades in arms of the knight Bayard and contemporaries of Léonard de Vinci, made build the castles of Aubigny and the Verrerie. In 1512, a gigantic fire ruins the City of the Stuarts, nickname of Aubigny. Robert the changing, it will cost him three forests from where beautiful houses with wood sides which one sees today. Impelled by Stuarts and regulated by Colbert, the industry and the trade of cloth made the reputation of Albiniens.
Louise de Kéroualle, Duchesse of Portsmouth accepted Louis XIV the Duchy-Peerage of Aubigny. It embellishes the castles of Stuarts and bequeathed splendid gardens inspired by Ours.
Inheritance
The city constitutes today an exceptional whole of houses with Colombage S of the Renaissance time which have the characteristic all to be built in one or two generations.Among these houses, most remarkable is that known as of François 1st. One can also quote that of Bailly, that known as of Jeanne d' Arc, the old inn known as Maison Midsummer's Day.
Aubigny counts also vestiges of its fortifications, three turns of duty are thus visible in the north of the city.
But the city was especially marked by the dynasty of Stuarts which there built the Castle (today town hall) and that of the Verrerie to Oizon (10 km, village belonging to the châtellenie of Aubigny).

Events
Aubigny was Scottish during the 400 years of presence of the family of Stuarts. Also since 1990, it celebrates this identity by organizing free-Scottish Festivals each weekend of July 14th. With the program: historical spectacle sound and light, medieval market, pipe-bands, dressed up procession. To note that the first edition of the festivals took place in 1931 but which they became annual that since 1990.
