Aubière
Aubière is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne. Aubière belongs to the urban surface of Clermont-Ferrand.
Its inhabitants are the aubiérois (be).
Geography
Aubière is located in the southern agglomeration of Clermont-Ferrand, in the middle of the Puy-de-Dôme. It is next to the communes of Clermont-Ferrand, of Beaumont, Romagnat, Pérignat-lès-Sarliève and Cournon-in Auvergne.
History
Until the end of the 19th century, Aubière sheltered a strong wine activity which ceased following the epidemic of Phylloxéra. Witnesses of this activity, the majority of the houses of the borough are equipped with a cuvage, and many cellars built on the sides north and south of the valley of the Artière which crosses the borough. There remains today one wine grower installed on the commune of Aubière.
The characteristic of these cellars east which they are built in height, because of the presence of a ground water causing a too strong moisture in basement. An urban legend thus wants, which one then speaks “to rather assemble to the cellar” than “to go down to the cellar”.
The museum of the vine and the wine preserves the traditional tools used for the vine growing and of the documents of files. The range of this museum is not limited to the commune of Aubière, but extends to the Vins from Auvergne.
