Aubenton

Aubenton is a common French, located in the department of the Aisne and the area Picardy.

Geography

Aubenton owes its name with its localization with the junction of the Paddle and Tuna.

History

Second world war

Whereas the department of Aisne counts 10 " Right among the nations " (French having risked their life in a completely not involved way to come to assistance of Jews persecuted by the Nazis at the time of the Shoah), Aubenton counts 3 of these “ Justes ”:
  • Emile Fountain (a street bears its name)
  • Annette Pierron, his/her partner at the time
  • Camille Pierron, mother of the latter and owner of a farm with Buirefontaine.
Cut down by the Gestapo on the Aubenton road - Besmont (departmental D 37 ), on March 30th, 1944, Emile Fontaine was recognized captain FFI after the Libération. All three saved 10 escaped prisoners of the “ Judenlager ” of the Mazures hidden to some extent with Buirefontaine.
