Aubagne

Aubagne (in Occitan Of Provence Aubanha according to the traditional standard or Aubagno according to the Standard mistralienne) is a common French, located in the department of the Rhone delta and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. The inhabitants of Aubagne are called the Aubagnais .

Geography

The site of Aubagne is in the valley of the Huveaune, triangular marshy plain, whose tops point towards Aix-en-Provence in north, Toulon in the east, and Marseilles in the west. The city is bordered by the Massif of Garlaban, the buttresses of the Holy-Balsam, and with the south by the Massif of Douard prolonged by the mounts of Carpiagne towards the west. Its assets rise from its situation of crossroads of these 3 agglomerations. However, the many hills and other small butt which strew its territory make of them natural obstacles which tend to partition space. This city has also the characteristic to have been the first town of France to being completely surrounded by Autoroutes.

Soldier

Since 1962 the seat of the command of the Foreign legion is stationed in Aubagne.
It is represented by the 1st foreign regiment gathering eight hundred men.
For the centenary of the Battle of Camerone on April 30th 1963, the war memorial placed in the Viénot barracks with Sidi-beautiful-Abbots was repatriated in Aubagne.

This monument represents a terrestrial sphere framed by four legionaries. The statue is out of bronze drawn by the sculptor Henri Pourquet.
The mass of the monument is of 80 T.
