Attacks of July 21st, 2005 in London
The purpose of the July 21st 2005 with London , is two weeks exactly after the attacks of July 7th, four low power bombs were to touch public transport of the city:
- 12:26: explosion in the subway with Shepherd' S Bush
- 12:30: explosion in the subway with Oval
- 12:45: explosion in the subway with Warren Street
- 13:30: explosion in a bus with Bethnal Green.
The possibility of a chemical attack was evoked, but contradicted by the London police force.
Human accounts
No death in the explosions. Only one person had seems T it wounded in Warren Street, but it was acted in fact of an asthma attack, ensures Scotland Yard, certainly due to panic.However, the following day July 22nd, following the suspicions caused by the attacks of the day before, a man died cut down by the police force. Reactions of the British authorities
- Tony Blair declared: “We cannot minimize events of this kind because they obviously were serious in four distinct places, like we know it” and “the combination of this evil, of this ideological bankruptcy founded on the perversion of Islam by terrorism, it is something which was built over a certain period. It will take a certain time to dismantle that. But I do not doubt at all but at the end the values which we represent will be those which will triumph”.
International reactions
- the European commission expressed its solidarity with the the United Kingdom and encouraged the Member States to apply strict anti-terrorists measurements.
- the Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf condemned the attacks severely.
- the king of the Morocco Mohammed VI condemned the attacks by expressing its “sharp judgment of these cheap criminal aggressions aiming at attacking stability, to safety and quietude”.
First assumptions
For the moment one cannot affirm that these attacks were consequently made terrorist organization that those of July 7th. Indeed, even if the procedure seems the same one, i.e. the fact that the targets were public transport London thus three subway stations and a bus, and that they are at the four cardinal points of London. This time, only the detonators exploded. Moreover, one does not know yet if the bombs were carried by kamikazes or if they were deposited. Certain witnesses affirm to have seen somebody throwing a bag in one of the three subway stations before fleeing while running, which could exclude the assumption from the kamikazes.July 22nd, 2005 the group Brigades Abou Hafs Al-Masri - Division of Europe, affiliated with mobility Al Qaïda, asserts the attacks of London, by affirming that it is about a warning to the countries which pursue the American policy to Iraq. Internet site chosen to publish the message and the style make doubt its authenticity.

The chief of the police force of London, Ian Blair, declared that the bombs used seemed less powerful than those used at the time of the attacks of July 7th since only the detonators exploded because chemical proportioning was inadequate. Thus the real intention of the terrorists was to kill.Three men were stopped in the district of Stockwell, in the south of London. The July 26th, 2 men were stopped in a train. The July 27th, 4 men were challenged with Birmingham. That changes to 9 the number of people retained by the police force of which one of the people who would be a person who plants bombs.
The police force found explosives in an apartment having belonged to two of supposed responsible, as well as a car belonging to the one of supposed responsible.
Supposed responsible
Photographs resulting from video recordings of the surveillance cameras were revealed in the days following the assassination attempts, they show four suspects which were required during 8 days. They are suspectés to be the authors of the missed attacks.- Mokhtar Saïd Ibrahim or Mokhtar Mohammed Saïd, 27 years of Eritrean origin, it had tried to explode a bomb in the bus number 26 in the east of London. He was condemned in February 1996 by the court of Luton to a five years of prison sorrow, revealed the popular newspaper The Sun Wednesday, July 27. He obtained his British passport in September 2004 in spite of his police records. He was stopped on July 29th, 2005 in London.
- Yacine Hassan Omar, 24 years, it had tried to explode a bomb in the subway station of Warren Street. It was stopped on July 27th in Birmingham.
- Isaac Hamdi says Osman Hussain, of Ethiopian origin, it had tried to explode a bomb in the subway station Shepherd' S Bush. It was stopped with Rome on July 29th, 2005. The brother of Osman Hussain which is owner of a coffee Internet close to the central station of Rome-Termini was also challenged in the Italian capital.
- Ramzi Mohammed, of Somali origin, it had tried to explode a bomb in the subway station of Oval, it was stopped on July 29th, 2005 in London with his/her brother Wahbi Mohammed, 23 years which would have deposited a bag of explosives in a park of London.
Inculpations
- Hamdi Issac, alias Osman Hussain, is accused on August 1st in Rome of association having for finality international terrorism
- on August 4th Ismael Abdurahman, 23 years, of Kennington, is accused in London. It is reproached to him for having held between the 23 and on July 28th information which could help with the arrest, the continuation or the judgment of another person for perpetration, preparation or instigation of a terrorist act .
- on August 6th Yassin Hassan Omar was accused for plot of homicide and detention of explosive substance in relation to the assassination attempts of July 21st in public transport London
- on August 7th Mokhtar Saïd Ibrahim, and Ramzi Mohammed. Three other men under other reasons: it is about Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, Siraj Yassin Abdullah Ali and Wharbi Mohammed.
- on August 10th, Abdul Sharif, 28 years.
- on August 11th the wife of Hamdi Issac, Yeshiemebet Girma, 29 years, the sister of this one, Mulumebet Girma, 21 years. Five other people are continued, in relation to Hamdi Issac, Ismael Abdurahman, 23 years, Asias Girma, 20 years, Shadi Abdel Gadir, 22 years, Omar Nagmeloin Almagboul, 20 years, and Mohamed Kabashi, 23 years. Seul Asias Girma is concretely shown to have helped Hamdi Issac. Finally Siraj Yassin Abdullah Ali, 30 years, and Wharbi Mohammed, 22 years are shown to have dissimulated information on Yacine Hassan Omar, Mokhtar Saïd Ibrahim, and Ramzi Mohammed. Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, 32 years, was accused for plot in order to make murders. It is suspected of having given up the fifth found bomb a few days later with Little Wormwood Scrubs.
Lawsuit
The lawsuit began on February 15th, 2006 with Woolwich. Six marked is judges: Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, 33 years, Ramzi Mohammed, 25 years, Mokhtar Saïd Ibrahim, 28 years, Yassin Hassan Omar, 26 years, Adel Yahya, 24 years and Osman Hussain, 28 years, also known under the name of Hamdi Issac. They plead all nonculprits.
Jean-Charles de Menezes

The July 22nd 2005 in midmorning 27 years the Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes is killed out of seven balls in the head in the Métro of London to Stockwell by men of the SO19. Police officers of this unit of elite of Scotland Yard had taken it in spinning mill after it had left a building, they had suspecté it to be one of the four kamikaze related to the attacks. No police officer passes in judgment.
