Atlantic Coop

Coop Atlantique is a public limit company, in the form of co-operative of consumers. It is one of the last co-operatives of French large distribution, with Coop Alsace in particular. It is held by more than 385000 associated shareholders

Based with Holy, in Charente-Maritime, its turnover reached 1,1 billion euro in 2005.

History

Its creation goes up in 1912 under the name of Saintaise, become Regional Coopérative of Charentes and Poitou in 1920, then Regional Coopérative in 1972 and finally Coop Atlantique in 1994. Between 1953 and 1973, regroupings are carried out with various local co-operatives, until fusion with that of Limoges, founded it in 1881 under the name of Union of Limoges.

1998: Partnership agreements for the purchases and the signs with the Group Modern Crossroads and Comptoirs at January 1st, 1998. The hypermarkets take the Carrefour ensign and the supermarkets sign STOC. 2000: Fusion Crossroads-Promodès. The supermarkets take the Champion ensign.

2004: Filiation of the Toquenelle ensign. Partnership agreement with the sign of discount ED of the Crossroads group.

It holds moreover 50% of Carcoop, with parity with Carrefour, and managing under the Carrefour ensign six hypermarkets with Moulins, Denain, Douai - Flers, Liévin, Saint-Pol.-on-Sea, Borough-in-Bresse.
