Atlántico On

The be Región Autónoma del Atlántico On is one of the 2 autonomous regions Nicaragua (being added to the 15 departments). It extends on: 27407 km ² and have a population of: 382100 hab. (estimate 2005). Its capital is Bluefields.

Geography

The area has a maritime frontage, in the east, on the Caribbean Sea.

It is moreover bordering:

  • in north, of the autonomous region of the Atlántico Norte;
  • in the south and south-west, of the department of the Río San Juan;
  • in the west, of the departments of Chontales and Boaco;
  • in the North-West, of the department of Matagalpa.
