Athletics handisport

The athletics handisport is a Sport derived from the Athlétisme. It is the one of oldest Handisport S: it is in 1946 at the hospital of Stoke Mandeville to the the United Kingdom that motor disabilities organized for the first time of the races in Wheel chair.

Rules

The athletics complies with the established rules by the International federation of athletics amateur, adapted to take account of the Handicap sportsmen.

The tests of athletics take place in eighteen disciplines:

  • of the tests of race: 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1.500 m, 5.000 m, 10.000 m, relay 4 X 100 m, relays 4 X.400 m
  • of the tests of jump: height, length, triple jump
  • of the tests of launching: weight, disc, Javelin and hammer
  • the Pentathlon
  • the marathon
In each discipline, there are several tests since the athletes contribute gathered of categories of Handicap.

The visually handicapped persons have the permission to run beside a sportsman seeing who is used to them as guide to the 100 m, 200 m, 400 m and 800 m like on road.

Classification of the handicaps

According to their handicap, the athletes are classified of categories indicated by numbers.

Categories 33 to 38 are reserved to the athletes reached of cerebral paralysis.

Categories 51 to 54 are reserved to the athletes reached with the spinal-cord, who take part in the tests in wheel chair

Categories 42 to 46 are reserved to the athletes amputees and for the other types of driving handicap. These take part upright in the tests, if necessary with a Prothèse.

Category 40 is hold with the people of small size (seulememt for the throws)

Categories 11,12 and 13 gather the athletes partially-sighted persons and blind men.

Competition

The athletics is an official sport paralympic since the paralympic Jeux of Rome in 1960, which are the first Plays paralympic to be organized. With the paralympic Plays, the athletics is the Handisport which gathers the greatest number of athletes and which counts the greatest number of tests.

Since 1984, tests of demonstration of athletics handisport are presented to the Olympic Games.
