Athlete
Athlete is a British group of pop rock'n'roll created in 1999.
It is composed of:
- Joel Pott - guitar and song,
- Carey Willets - low and song
- Steve Roberts - battery and choruses
- Tim Wanstall - keyboards and choruses
Biography
Friends since the 14 years age, the members of the Athlete group draw their influences from groups like Grandaddy and The Flaming Lips. They started by repeating in the basements of The Bear, a pub which had been converted into a church and a sandwichery, on Deptford High Street (London), in 1999. It is there that they started to record, before creating a model. Having signed with Recordings Treat, they published their first individual in February 2002, then into 2003 their first album, Vehicles And Animals , putting forward individual the rather popular such You Got the Style and El El Salvador . The album gained a nomination for a Mercury Music Prize and ran out with more than 250.000 copies.
Their second album, called Tourist , obtained the first place of charts the U.K. in 2005, in particular thanks to the enormous success of individual the Wires.
