Athena Inc.
Athena Inc. is a series of comics created by Brian Haberlin and Jay Anacleto published by Image Comics. The series is new in France.
Synopsis
Athena Inc. is the name of a non-governmental secret organization specialized in the assassinations. It has agents created by genetic engineering in order to increase their physical capacities beyond the human limitations.The project was born from the study of superhuman samples coming from mysterious a Ice Maiden , which one does not know if it is of an living being or a scientific discovery. Sister Eve, the first of the agents is the fruit of its research, even is itself this Ice Maiden . Thereafter, it was used as model for all the later agents, thus creating a genetic relationship between each one of them. This is why all the agents are identified by their first name and the qualifier of uncle/aunt if they are of first generation, or brother/sister for the second generation.
Summary
In The beginning , an analyst of the CIA discovered by chance the existence of Athena Inc., an clandestine organization specialized in the assassinations. When it realizes of the threat which she represents, he knows that he is already too late for him, and that even the Agency will not be able to protect it. Indeed, an explosive load is drawn on its apartment from a building opposite at his place by Anna, an agent of Athena Inc. Its completed mission, this one decides to distort company with its relay with the district-general in order to take good time. It is at this time that it is attacked by suprise by priests equipped with automatic weapons. Wounded, it changes then into Brenda, its alter-ego. Indeed, a characteristic of the agents of Athena Inc. is that they have a whole an alter-ego with the personality and the physique different, which themselves can be agents. Brenda as for it not being wounded, it arrives quickly to end of the priests, before being found vis-a-vis an enigmatic figure, more extremely than it in spite of its superhuman capacities, which burns it with dead by affixing its hands on it.
Although this event has surprised the direction of Athena Inc., missions of the continuous company. In particular, in Manhunter Project , a ambush is tended by the agency to Mary, one of its own agents which is considered too independent. In spite of the sending of three Manhunters, Johnnie brother, uncle Allen and aunt Joan, Mary manage to escape by sabotaging the ultra-sophisticated armor which Allen carries: the explosion which is followed from there wounds Johnnie seriously and proves to be fatal for Allen and Joan.
When he learns the existence from this ambush, professor Randall, who is the scientist behind the project, gives his resignation to the agency. He indeed is very attached to Gwen, the alter-ego mannequin of Mary, which he modelled with the image of his late daughter. Johnnie, returned among deaths and rafistolé with blow of cybernetic prostheses finds it before him and attacks it to be avenged. Gwen, which does not know anything Manhunters, cannot be defended and ends up losing consciousness following the blows which it receives, which makes it possible Mary to take control. this one manages to get rid of him and finds Randall which proposes to him to hide it.
While it makes a nap to rest, Mary becomes again Gwen, which terrified escapes and precipitates in his/her boyfriend. Unfortunately, it is about a trap of Manhunters, and Gwen is removed. Morgan, the owner of Athena Inc. try to convince it to voluntarily join them, but she manages to flee with the complicity of Blessed, which was the relay of Mary. Continued by all Manhunters on the spot, it leaves its place to Mary which manages to all to overcome them. She is caught some then in Morgan, which is completed by Sister Eve, tortured since months to advance research.
The series ends in the intervention of FBI, and the nomination of Randall to the head of Athena Inc. in order to make it return to initial function: the Espionage rather than the assassination.
