Atassi
Atassi is the name of a famous family Syria. The properties which Atassi have with Homs and with Damas are at the base of their richness and their influence. They for the majority made their studies with Istanbul at the time capital of the Ottoman Empire, then with the Sorbonne and in other European centers of studies during the French Mandat in Syria.
The power and the prestige of the family reached their zenith at the time of the foundation of the modern Syrian republic, in 1936, whose first Head of State was Hachem Al-Atassi. Two other Atassi family members, Luai Al-Atassi and Noureddine Al-Atassi exerted the functions of Head of the State. The family counts also many mayors, magistrates, ambassadors, muftis, members of Parliament and officers.
