The Atari is a technical term of the Jeu of go. It describes a situation of play in which a stone or a group of stones has nothing any more but only one freedom (only one empty intersection in the immediate vicinity). In this situation, the threatened player must intervene immediately under penalty of seeing his group completely encircled and made captive. The group would be then withdrawn from the Goban and is entered with the profit of the player who seizes some.
