Aswan (Arabic أسوان), in the past Syène , is a city of almost: 250000 inhabitants, of the south of the Egypt, located on Right Bank of the the Nile where sail the Felouque S. It finds to approximately 843 km of the Cairo.

History

The city draws a good part of its economic activity from the Tourisme, in particular of cruisings on the river since Louxor or on the Lac Nasser.

It was the preferred city of François Mitterrand which passed Christmas there each year.

Stopping

It is also known for its stoppings, the first builds by the British in 1908, the high stopping inaugurated by the president Sadate in 1971 creating a vast tank, the Lac Nasser. At the time of Nasser achieved the old dream of the Pharaons: to control the flood of the Nile god.

Culture

Inaugurated in 1997, the museum of antiquities of Nubie accommodates the vestiges of a civilization whose grounds were absorbed by the lake Nasser.
