Asuran

The Asurans are a species Extraterrestre mechanical present as from season 3 of the Televised series Stargate Atlantis .

Several thousands of years ago, the Anciens of Atlantis created robots nanoscopic in order to fight the Wraith (see the episode). They manufactured them so that they are more quarrelsome than Wraith same. These nanorobots evolved/moved in more complex structures, until taking the form of their creators. Thus were born Asuran. When the Old ones understood that despite everything, those would never become the weapon which they had wished, they decided to put an end to their experiment. They mobilized their men-of-war then and started the " génocide" Asuran race. Some nanorobots surviving succeeded, after the departure of Old, to be rebuilt and rebuild their civilization. On Ensured, their principal planet, they built large cities, unquestionable comparable with Atlantis.

In the episode, the team of Atlantis goes on the Asuras world after having discovered her existence in the database of Atlantis. She then discovers there the very advanced civilization of Asuran. This civilization is advanced so much so that it is initially taken for the civilization of Old. But Asuran reveal their true nature quickly. They affirm to have a plan to destroy Wraith. Asurans reappear then in the episodes and.

Asuran are comparable with the Réplicateurs humanoïdes. The goal of Asurans is not however to retort itself, and their programmed objectives have the air always rather vague; it is perhaps with the result that the experimentation of Asurans at summer considered as a failure by the Old ones.

Asurans seem perfectly to control the technology of Old, in particular the construction of E2PZ. Their architectural model is the same one as that their creators. Moreover, they have a city of Old whose energy supply is not a problem.

The basic difference between Asurans and the Anciens lies in their mentality. Indeed, Asurans are extremely quarrelsome. They have as an original intention the destruction of Wraith which cannot prevent oneself from attacking them. On the other hand, some of them wish to continue their evolution and to carry out to them Ascension, in the same way that their creators. Their quarrelsome programming is in any event a brake with this evolution and the Old ones programmed them so that they cannot reprogram themselves, which blocks them at this point of their evolution. Moreover, with their initial programming, they cannot attack the Old ones (what is not any more the case since Rodney McKay modified their code). The other difference, physics, compared to Réplicateurs, is that they are able to be retorted starting from biological cells, and more only of metals. A person infected by the nanorobots thus will be gradually transformed in spite of it into Asuran, her body converted of the interior.
