Astugue

Astugue is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

The name would come from local name country of the " houguères" (the Fern S) and of the " tugayes" (thuies or gorses of Europe), from where would have left popular name: Estugo, Astugo… Astugue.

SITUATION: Village, that one discovers on one of the last slopes which are staged, of the foot of the MONTAIGU towards the plain, is located, practically in the geometrical center of an equilateral triangle having for tops cities of BAGNERES-of-BIGORRE, DOORS and TARBES.

It is bordered: in south-east and the south, by the communes of TREBONS and LABASSERE; in south-west and the west, by those of NEUILH, OSSUN-EZ-ANGLES, the HITTE and ARRAYOU; in north, by those of ORINCLE and LOUCRUP; in the east, by that of MONTGAILLARD.

The Observation sanatorium of Astugue (which was built in the Thirties?), and carries the name of " was today modernized; Hospital Montaigu" (of the name of the Pic of Montaigu, that one can see of this place).

Personalities related to the commune

At the 19th century, the village of Astugue had a known famous healer under the name of " the ome of Astuguo" , the man of Astugue.
