Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. is a make of car whose emblem is a wing in reference to the badge carried by the aviators of the Royal Air Force, creates by Lionel Martin. The name Aston Martin comes from the name of its creator and the hill climb of Aston Clinton, which in 1913 Lionel Martin gained.

History

From 1910 to 1930

The first car produced by Lionel Martin is finished in 1913, it was intended to compete with Bugatti. This car reached 115 km/h. After war 14/18, the firm was saved by the financial aid of the count Zborowski, rich patron Polish. The May 24th 1922, the “Bunny” beats the world records while rolling 16 hours 1/2 with an average of 125 km/h. In 1925, the company is put in Liquidation, but is taken again in October 1926 by Augusto César Bertelli. In 1932, Aston Martin gains the biannual cut of the Mans.

From 1940 to 1970

In 1947 the firm has financial problems and is repurchased by David Brown, amalgamating it with Lagonda, which it has already. It installs the factory with Newport Pagnell. In 1948 the mark gains the 24 hours of Spa. In 1956 and 1959, Aston Martin tries incursions into the Formule 1 but without success. In 1959 leave the DBR, the racing cars racing which will make the fame of the mark. These cars will gain three times successively the 1.000 km of Nürburgring and will be victorious in very many international races. In the years 1970, the mark passes under the control of US investors.

From 1980 to 2006

In 1987, the group Ford becomes majority shareholder of the firm (then totality in 1993). During years 1980 and 90, many models with success will leave (DBS V8, Volante convertible, Vantage, DB7…).

From 2007 to our days

A new page is turned on March 13rd, 2007 for Aston Martin. The Ford group, in financial problems, had indeed decided to sell the mark to better be able to concentrate on its principal activity (the Ford mark). After several assumptions (of which the group LVMH), it is a consortium carried out by David Richards, John Sinders and two companies Kuwait iennes Investment Dar and Adeem Investment which gains the setting and becomes new the propriétairex of Aston Martin. They announce that the production of the cars will be delocalized soon.

David Richards gained the championship of the world of the rallys into 1981 at the sides of the Finn Ari Vatanen and directs Prodrive since 1984, a company which manufactures spare parts for racing racing cars and which project to take part in the Championship of the World of Formule 1 in 2008.
