Toponymy
The toponym Aste appears in the form Asta (1487, notaries of Ossau).Its origin is Basque, of aitz/as point rocheuse.
The toponym Béon appears in the forms Beoo (1374, contracts of Luntz), Beo of Bag d' Ossau (1427, contracts of Carresse), Sent Felix de Béon (1654, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron).
It comes from a pre-indo-European oronymic root Ben .
History
In 1385, Aste counted 18 fires and depended on the Bailliage of Ossau.On this same date, Béon also counted 18 fires and raised of same the bailliage. The stronghold of Béon depended on the Viscount of Béarn.

The economy of the commune is historically directed towards agriculture and the élevage.In 1769, Jean-Joseph d' Augerot, clerk as a chief of the Parliament of Navarre made build a forging mill in valley of Ossau with Béon. The forging mill of Béon used the ore of old mines with Aste.

Environmental inheritance
The Natural reserve of nesting of the fawn-coloured vultures, created by ministerial decree of December 11th, 1974, is located on the territory of the communes of Aste-Béon, Bielle, Bilhères and Castet. The museum which is associated for him, called the Cliff with the Vultures , is at the entry of the village of Aste-Béon.
