Astara

Astara is also the name of a Raion (area) in Azerbaijan, see Astara (raion).
Astara آستارا|Āstarā is a provincial town of Gilan in Iran. It is located at the border of the Azerbaïdjan, at the edge of the Caspian Sea, on trade route between Iran and the the Caucasus. She plays a part of important shopping mall there.

Etymology

Its name would be derived from the words Turkish " ast" and " araliq" , " low région" , because Astara is located in one of the lowest areas of the zone populated by the Azeris. Another explanation would be that its name would be derived from the Persan or the Talysh آهستهرو , " Aste-ro" or " Aheste-ro" , a place where the voyage slows down.
