Assumption of Broglie
In Physical, the assumption of Broglie is the assertion which any matter has an undulatory form : this gives place to the Dualité wave-particle. Moreover, the Wavelength and the Quantité of movement of a particle are connected by a simple equation:
-
which posed the bases of the quantum Mécanique.
History
It is Louis de Broglie which in 1924, obtains the title of doctor d' État on the basis of this daring theoretical assumption.
In 1929, it receives the Nobel Prize for this work.
Details
The Wavelength and the Quantité of movement of a particle are connected by the equation:
where:
-
is the Wavelength of the particle
-
is the Constante of Planck of the particle
-
is the Quantité of movement of the particle
-
is the Rest mass of the particle
-
is the Speed of the particle
The larger energy is, the larger the Fréquence is and the wavelength is small.
If one is interested in macroscopic particles, the mass of the measured objects is so large in front of the Planck's constant which the wavelength obtained becomes negligible (for a person, it would be about meters at most). Therefore according to the assumption of Broglie, the undulatory character of the massive objects is not measurable.
