Assistant general secretary of the United Nations

The Assistant general secretary of the United Nations (SGA) is a senior official within the framework of UNO, normally named by General meeting on the recommendation of the General secretary.

The majority of SGAs are named by General meeting on the recommendation of the General secretary. Others (special correspondents and others) are named by the General secretary on his own authority. All SGAs return account to the General meeting by the General secretary. The only exception is the SGA with the Bureau of the services of the internal control which submits his report/ratio with the General secretary directly.

Rank

Certain stations inside UNO have the same rank that SGAs but do not use the title of the SGA. The administrator of UNDP (Program of the United Nations for the development) is the third more important civil servant of UNO after the General secretary and the general Vice-secretary of the United Nations.

SGAs have a diplomatic rank are equivalent of a Minister for the national cabinet . Under the terms of the Article 105 of the Charter of the United Nations, SGAs enjoy the diplomatic Immunity.

Board of trustees

More than 50 people have the rank of the SGA. Among them, their influence and capacity vary. Most important SGAs which manages budgets, programs or clées activities are also members of the Cabinet of the General secretary of the United Nations or SMG. SMG (of angais Senior Management Group , the management group of the General secretary) is charged to ensure that there are a strategic coherence and a direction in works of UNO. The cabinet was ratified by the General meeting in 1997 in the reforms subjected by Kofi Annan.
