The Monte dei Paschi di Siena (the Bank Goes up of Paschi of His) is the oldest bank of the world still in activity. It was founded in 1472 like Mont of piety for the underprivileged classes of the population of His in Tuscany (Italy).

It is today with the head of one of the first groups of the Italian banks: the Group Goes up of Paschi of His (or MPS Groups).

History

The Bank Goes up of Paschi of His is born on the decision from the Magistratures from the Republic from His like mount from pity in 1472, year when is approved its statute and as from which the institute of credit functioned without interruption. For this reason, she is regarded as the oldest bank, of the world, still in activity.

The Statut of Paschi is the base of its foundation, written by the Sienans around 1419 for the regulation of all the activities inherent in the agriculture and the breeding of the sheep in Maremme. The birth of the organization of credit was one of the basic elements of the known as statute.

In 1624, His is integrated into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Large-duke Ferdinand II concedes with the depositors of the mount of piety, the guarantees on the revenues of the domanial pastures of Maremme (oneself-saying them " Paschi").

With the Italian Unit, the bank extends its activity in all the peninsula, while opening with new activities, between which the building and loan association, first attempt in Italy.

In 1929, the bank amalgamates with the Credit Tuscan and the Bank of Florence in Tuscan Bank ( Banca Toscana ).

In 1936, she is declared institute of credit of public law. The Bank obtains a new statute which, with various modifications, remains in force up to 1995.

During the time which goes from 1990 to 1995, Assembles it of Paschi of His is the first bank in Italy to diversify its activity by the life insurances with Monte of Paschi-Vita and Tramite Ducato Gestioni in the pools of investment. In the years 1990, it controls the microphone-credit Tuscan and the INCA ( Istituto Nazionale per it Credito Agrario ), an activity which will develop in MPS ( Banca per Impresa ), the bank for the Company.

It acquires moreover participations of control of foreign banks, in Belgium, in Switzerland and France.

The decree of the Ministry of Finances of August 8th, 1995 gives rise to two organizations: the Banque Assembles of Paschi of His S.p.A and the Fondation Assembles of Paschi of His , which has as a statutory role the assistance and the benevolence, as well as the social utility in the sectors of the instruction, the scientific research, health and art, by using the reference to the city and the province of His.

The seat of the bank is with the Palazzo Salimbeni in the high city and that of the foundation to the Palazzo Sansedoni giving on the Piazza del Campo.

June 25th, 1999, the Bank Goes up of Paschi of His quoted on the stock exchange (with the Mercato Telematico Azionario della Borsa Italian ) with one is offered public which makes him record requests for purchase ten times higher.

With quotation out of Stock Exchange starts an intense phase of expansion territorial and operational which comes from acquisitions and participations of the district banks with a strong territorial rooting, between which the Agricultural bank of Mantoue (BAM: Banca Agricola Mantovana ) and the Bank of the Salento ( Banca del Salento then Banca 121 ). The acquisition of BAM made it possible the bank to develop its presence in septentrional Italy, that of the Bank of Salento mainly in the South. One gives life to the potenziamento productive structures, in the sector of the specialized credit and the financial products for the companies, thus as in the sector of the consumer credit, with the company Consum.it , and in the sector of the investment banking , in the saving and the parabancaire, in particular with bank MPS Leasing & Factoring. In parallel is carried out to an internal reorganization of the group, with an aim of the multimarché specialized model.

Collections

If the Institute is recent, the artistic collection of Monte of Paschi of His goes back to 1481 with the fresco of the Madonna della Misericordia ordered from Benvenuto di Giovanni del Guasta for the foundation of the Bank. The collection grew rich during the centuries by works by artists
