Assemble San Valentine
The Assembles San Valentine , also known under the name of Monte San Clemente , is more the high mountain of the Patagonie Chile enne and more the high mountain in the south of the Southern 40° apart from the the Antarctic.
Monte San Valentine can be climbed since Lago Leones, in south-east, or since Laguna San Rafael, in the west. The rise is long and can be made difficult by the weather conditions. The accidents fatal are not rare.
The altitude of the mountain is prone to debate. It was estimated at the origin to 3.876 m by Nordenskjold in 1921 then later with 4.058m. Altitude commonly accepted today and quoted here was éterminée later. A French forwarding, including/understanding two geometricians, climbs San Valentine in 1993 and calculated an altitude of 4.080±20 m by using a GPS. In 2001, a Chilean forwarding measured an altitude of 4.070±40 m, also by GPS. The data SRTM agree on an altitude higher than 4.000 meters. But the charts of Chilean IGM give him only 3.910 meters. The charts of ChIGM are usually precise and reliable, but the top is uniformly white, which could pose certain problems with the cartographers.
