Monte Castelo is a city Brésil ienne north of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located by a Latitude of 26º 27 ' 44" south and by a Longitude of 50º 13 ' 52" west, with a Altitude of 820 meters. Its population was estimated at: 8165 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 562 km ².

General information

The municipality, whose population is of various origin, accepted this name in homage to the Brazilian soldiers who combatirent in Italy, during the Second world war.

History

The passage of the Tropeiro S which transported Cuir and Bœuf S of the Rio Grande C Sul to São Paulo gave the impulse for the settlement of the area, around 1890. The territory belonged then to the State of the Paraná and it was only after the Guerre of Contestado, of 1912 with 1916, which arrived of the foreign immigrants, among which Polish, Italy NS, German and Japan board, baptizing the locality Rio das Antas . Into 1959, the municipality changes name to become Monte Castelo.

Economy

The Agriculture is the independent source of income of the municipality, in particular the culture of the Potato, as well as the Maïs, the Soja and the Haricot. One also finds there Industrie S exploiting the Bois area and industries Céramique S. Enfin, one collects there the Yerba subdued, which is exported after transformation towards the Europe and the countries of the Mercosul.
