Ass of Cotentin

The ass of the Cotentin is a race of ass originating in the west of the department of the Manche.

It measures between 1,20 and 1,35 m for the males, between 1,15 and 1,30 m for the females. Its dress is gray (ashed gray, bluish gray, gray turtle-doves) with a Croix of saint André, his white gray belly, the sharp eye with glasses sometimes russet-red white gray, the mane right-hand side.

It was primarily present in north-Cotentin, but was well exported since the fairs of Lessay and Gavray, in the French areas and abroad.

Like the Norman ass, it was especially used like ass of pack in the farms to transport the milk cans, but also harnessed for the agricultural work.

The race is recognized by the National stud farms since 1997.
