Aspiran
Aspiran is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Aspiranais.
Geography
History
The name of Aspiran would be derived from the name of an old villa Gallo-Roman E. One finds traces of amphoras wine which show that the culture of the vine was already important at that time. The Abbaye of Aniane became owner of Aspiran and remained it until the Révolution.Medieval enclosure remain two doors. One still finds houses built between and 17th centuries. One practices the mixed-farming (rye, vine, olive-tree) and the work of wool. At the end of the 19th century, the crisis of the Phylloxéra surmounted, the vine growing becomes omnipresent. A wine co-operative is built. The Clairette of Aspiran obtains the Appellation of controlled origin in 1948.

- the House of the viguier (15th century) built for the abbot of Aniane.
- the Door of the East, remains strengthened enclosure.
- the Saint-Julien Church, whose northern wall is Romance time. Rebuilt at the 14th century, it was then strengthened. The War One hundred Year old and the Wars of religion damaged it.
- the Vault of the penitent ones. In XIVe and XVe centuries, the penitent ones of the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit met there. They were replaced at the 17th century by the Penitent White. The bell-tower is XIXe century.
