Asmat

The Asmat are an ethnicity of the province Indonesia of Papua. They live in the marshy forests of the southern part. They are approximately 65.000 and nourish fish, of game and cook the flour of the palm tree sagoutier.

The language asmat belongs to the family known as Trans-News Guinea of the Langues papoues.

It is in the search of asmat objects that Michael C. Rockefeller was probably killed.

administrative Division

The Kabupaten (department) Asmat is a subdivision of the province of Papua. Its capital is Agats. The kabupaten has a surface of 29.658 km ² and a population ranging between 59.000 and 70.000 inhabitants, essenteillement of the Asmat group.

In the kabupaten is the National park of Lorentz.
