Asia (Roman province)
The Roman Province of Asia included/understood the Carie, the Lydie, the Mysie, the Phrygie and the Troade. The cities were numerous: Pergame, Smyrna, Éphèse, Milet… Although the kingdom of Pergame was bequeathed by Attale III in 133 av. J-C it was organized by Manius Aquilius only after the war caused by the revolt of Aristonicos.
Under the Empire, become senatorial province, she knew one period ostentation.
Under Dioclétien it was divided in seven provinces: Asia, Islands, Hellespont, Lydie, Decay, Phrygie and 2nd all under the authority of only one proconsul.
Under Constantin and his successors, it formed three Diocèse S:
- diocese of Asia, subdivided in Hellespont (Mysie), Lydie, Decay, Phrygie S and 2nd, Lacaonie, Pisidie, Pamphylie.
- diocese of the Bridge, divided into Bithynie, Honorie, Paphlagonie, Bridge S and 2nd, Cappadoce S and 2nd, Arménie S and 2nd, and Galatie S and 2nd.
- diocese of the East, subdivided in Cilicie S and 2nd, Osroène, Syria S, 2nd and 3rd, Phénicie S and 2nd, Palestine S, 2nd and 3rd, Arabia S and 2nd.
