Ashshur

See also: Assur

Ashshur or Assur (אַשּׁוּר in Hebrew, ܐܫܘܪ in Assyrian), is a biblical character , quoted in the Genèse.

He is the second wire of Sem, small he of Noah, and his/her brothers were Élam, Arpakshad, Lud and Aram.

The text of the Genesis (chapters 10 and 11) remains ambiguous and does not allow to determine if the founder of Ninive in Assyrie is Assur or Nemrod, because in this text, the name of Assur can refer as well to the person as with the country.

One finds another Assur in the Bible: Assur, father of Tekoa, descendant of Juda (I Chronicles 2-24). He is the son of Hetsron and Abija, and had two women, Heléa and Naara, which gave him each one a descent.
