Ashley Wilkes is a fictitious character of the novel of Margaret Mitchell Gone With The Wind , the man on whom Scarlett O' Hara carries its obsession.
History of the character
He is in love with Melanie Hamilton, which is according to him “the only dream that he has to live and to breathe and which did not never die vis-a-vis reality” but tests desire for Scarlett that he confuses with love. Rather weak man, it dares neither to take it nor to push back it. Intellectual, it returns from the American Civil War very shocked and demolished.In the film adaptation, Leslie Howard lends its features to the character. Howard was hesitant to play this part, because it is the type of character whom it tests no joy to interpret: Ashley is a dreamer, somebody who could never support the true life.
