Asconius

Quintus Asconius Pedianus (9 - 76 apr. J. - C.) was a Latin grammairien born with Padoue.

He taught the eloquence with Rome, was friendly of Virgile and the Master of Tite-Live and Quintilien. He died under Néron, at 85 years.

One preserved his works only some fragments of a Commentaire at speeches of Cicéron whose manuscript was discovered in 1416 with Saint-Gall. These fragments are invaluable for the historians, because they contain many materials rare and, seems it, authentic. A critical edition of these fragments was published by the Danish scholar Johan Nicolai Madvig (1828).
