Ascona
Ascona is a Commune Switzerland Canton of Tessin.
Geography
Small village of fishermen located at the edge of the Lake Maggiore, Ascona changed, at the beginning of the XXe century, in a tourist resort society man and cultural, appreciated by the intellectual artists come from North.Ascona occupies a symmetrical site with that of Locarno compared to the delta of the Maggia.
History
Inhabited since prehistory, Ascona was in the Middle Ages a significant market protected by four castles now disappeared.A score of tombs belonging to a necropolis of the time between the Bronze Age and that of Iron were updated in 1950.
Towards 1250, two famous Milanese families, Carcani and Griglioni, were established in Ascona after having flees the capital lombarde because of the disorders which reigned there.
Confédérés controlled Ascona starting from 1513. In 1803, the canton of the Tessin entered the Confederation.
Verità Goes up
Verità Goes up is a hill located above Ascona. At the end of the XIXe century, an small group of people taken along by the industrialist Belgian Henry Oedenkoven and his partner, the pianist and feminist German Ida Hoffman, bought the hill. The founders practiced there then a life close to nature, vegetarian and nudist, preaching the free love openly.They remained on Assembles Verità until in 1920 and left then for the Brésil. The hill then became the meeting place of famous thinkers and artists, like Hermann Hesse or Erich Müsham.
In 1989, was created the Foundation Assembles Verità, in collaboration with the federal Polytechnic school of Zurich which exploits from now on a scientific center organizing seminars regularly.
