Asasp-Arros is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.
Its inhabitants is called Asaspois.

Hydrography

The commune is crossed by the Gave d' Aspe (which feed the gave of Oloron) and by its affluents, the Gave de Lourdios, the brooks Barescou, Toupiette, of Labatnère, of Cournalès, Arrectou, the arrèc S of Bugalas, Lassalle and Abérats.
Another affluent of the Gave d' Oloron, the brook the Mielle and its tributaries, the brook of Sarraude and the arrècs of Cazaux and Termy, also run on the territory of the commune.

Toponymy

The toponym Asasp appears in the forms Asap (1364, Fors de Béarn) and Azasp (1375, contracts of Luntz).

The toponym Arros is mentioned as of XIIe century (titles of Gabas).

History

Paul Raymond note that in 1385 Asasp counted 17 fires and Arros 7. Both depended on the Bailliage of Oloron.
The commune of Arros counted a laic, vassal abbey of the Viscount of Béarn.
