Aryamehr

Aryamehr (Persan: آریامهر) was the title used by the Shahanshah Mohammad Reza Shah of Iran. This title means Lumière of Aryan the .

History

The title was granted like secondary title by a session of the Parliament ( Majles ) on September 15th, 1965 to Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran (reigning since its oath before the Parliament on September 17th, 1941), before its crowning with Teheran on October 26th, 1967.

When Reza Cyrus Pahlavi has officially succeeded its father (in exile because of the Iranian Révolution which made Iran a Islamic Republic), it took the name of Reza Pahlavi II and carries also the titles of Shahanshah and Aryamehr and name Its Imperial Majesty on July 27th, 1980.

Associated order

The Neshan-e Aryamehr , Nešâne Aryamehr or Nishan-i Aryamehr , meaning “Order of the light of Aryan”, was the third and last imperial Order of knighthood that the last Shah founded on September 26th, 1967 (this date, quoted in the majority of the publications, is probably the date of the rebirth of this institution, and not that of the foundation: photographs taken with the imperial marriage into 1939 show the queen mother Taj ul-Mulk carrying an almost identical star; Reza Shah could have founded this order at the same time as the order of Pahlavi in 1932) in honor of its joint, the empress Farah Diba, and reserved to the women only. The first classes was reserved to the female sovereigns or united to sovereigns reigning, the second class with the princesses.
