Arvillard is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

History

Origin of the name : At the 11th century, the knight Humbert d' Arvillars and his Vierna wife made gift with the monks of Cluny, a “ farmhouse located in Allevard and in the villar which one names Al-Villar ” (Al-Villar not meaning high Villard but " in Villar"). Article Al was welded in the name of Villar to become " Arvillar" , then " Arvillars" during centuries until " Arvillard" today.

The inhabitants of Arvillard are called the " Pierrus" , because the habit wants that the men of Rochette which was going to seek their future wife with Arvillard were received with stone blows by the men of Arvillard.
