Arvillard is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

History

Origin of the name : At the 11th century, the knight Humbert d' Arvillars and his Vierna wife made gift with the monks of Cluny, a “ farmhouse located in Allevard and in the villar which one names Al-Villar ” (Al-Villar not meaning high Villard but " in Villar"). Article Al was welded in the name of Villar to become " Arvillar" , then " Arvillars" during centuries until " Arvillard" today.

The inhabitants of Arvillard are called the " Pierrus" , because the habit wants that the men of Rochette which was going to seek their future wife with Arvillard were received with stone blows by the men of Arvillard.

the Chartreuse of Holy Hugon, located at the bottom of a beautiful valley, with the hamlet of Saint-Hugon, is today occupied by the Institute Karmaling, arts center of the Dharma, where the work of the Bouddha is taught. See the site.
