Arvida
Industrial town of the Saguenay, with the Quebec built-in 1926, amalgamated with Jonquière in 1975.
The city was specifically created for the needs for the company Alcoa (become then the Alcan), which installed there an important factory of production of aluminum, largest of the world for a long time. The city at the time owes its name with initial of the president of the company, '' Ar '' the Thur '' VI '' ning '' Da '' screw.
At the time, the Alcan company manages the majority of the aspects of the municipal life, of town planning, the departments of health, education, the sports and the leisures of the city until the second world war.
In 1975, Arvida and Kénogami are amalgamated at the town of Jonquière. In the tread of the last great municipal fusions of 2002, the town of Jonquière itself was amalgamated with the towns of Chicoutimi, the Bay, Laterrière, Shipshaw, Lake-Kénogami and part of Canton-Tremblay to form Ville of Saguenay.
