Arusha is a city of the north of the Tanzania, capital of the area of Arusha.

Geography

Arusha is the administrative and industrial center of a producing area of Café, of Coton, Pyrèthre and Sisal. In 2002, its population was of 270.500 inhabitants, the current estimates go to 500.000 inhabitants.

International penal court

Arusha is the seat of the International penal court for Rwanda (TPIR) created in November 1994 by the the United Nations to judge the crimes of genocide made the same year with the Rwanda.

Transport

Arusha is the terminus of a way of railroad which connects it to the ports of the Indian Ocean: Tanga, in Tanzania and Mombasa, with the Kenya.

The airport of Arusha offers flights bound for the large parks, of Zanzibar and other towns of Tanzania. The international airport nearest is International Kilimanjaro Airport distant of approximately 50 kilometers.

Tourism

Its principal interest for the tourists is to be a town of departure or organization of the safaris for the Parc of Serengeti, the National park of Tarangire, the Cratère of Ngorongoro, and also the rises of the Kilimandjaro and the Mont Méru.

The city shelters the tropical Research institute on the pesticides.
