Arundhati Roy - born the November 24th 1961 - is an Indian écrivaine , auteure of the novel God of Small Riens , for which it obtained the Prix Booker.
In 1984, Arundhati meets her engaged couple, Pradip Krishen, realizer of cinema, which introduces it into the medium of the cinema. It takes part soon in its work, thus playing the part of a young villager in the film Massey Sahib (1985) and writing the scenarios of In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones (1988) and Electric Moon (1992). She writes to God of small the riens , which at the time of its publication in 2000 becomes a world best-seller (he obtains Booker Prize).
It defends the idea of After-development and took part in its conceptualization, thus it took part in several social forums, in particular that of Mumbai (2004).
In March 2002, it is condemned by the Indian Supreme court to have denounced the legal decision authorizing the construction of a stopping on the Narmadâ, symbolic condemnation one day of prison and 2000 Roupie S (35 € during February 2004). In 2004, Roy accepted the Sydney price of Peace for its engagement in social campaigns and its support with pacifism. In 2005, it took part in the World Court on Iraq.
