Artsvashen
Artsvashen (sometimes written Artzvashen , Azeri Bashkend in ) is a village of Arménie.
Artsvashen is a Armenian Enclave located inside the Azerbaïdjan. Administratively placed in the province of Gegharkunik, in the North-East of the country, the village in is distant of approximately 2 km ().
Artsvashen is currently occupied by Azerbaïdjan. Artsvashen (also known like Artzvashen or Bashkend) is a Exclave of the province Gegharkunik of the Arménie. It is completely surrounded by Azerbaïdjan and is controlled by this one since its invasion during the Guerre of Nagorno-Karabakh in 1992. The village was connected geographically to the Democratic republic of Arménie until in 1931, when this corridor was transferred to the Azerbaïdjan by the Soviet Union within the framework from a series from adjustments from the borders in the the Caucasus Southern.
During the War of Nagorno-Karabakh, this area also suffered from the hostilities. It was the site of many shootings crossed between Armenians and Azeris, in particular an incident implying the ambush of 22 Armenian soldiers in the area by Azeris speaking Armenian.
The enclave remained under control of the Armenians until August 1992, when 4.500 Armenian were evacuated by the Armenian army and 12 Armenian soldiers tués.
Today, the village, almost given up, is inhabited by some Azeris. It was famous Bashkend by the Azerbaijani government.
