arts , which means has nalog R eal T ime S ynthesizer (analogical synthetizer in real-time), is a free application which simulates an analogical synthetizer under KDE/Linux. One of the essential components of arts is the Serveur of sounds which mixes several sound Flux in Real-time. The waiter of sounds, which is called aRtsd (D as demon) is also used as the waiter of standard sounds for KDE (however it is independent of KDE and can thus be re-used in other projects). It is about a direct candidate for Audio JACK Connection Kit, another waiter of sounds in real-time.

The platform arts also includes/understands ARts Builder, an application to personalize the adjustments and the interconnections between audio mixeurs, sequencers, synthetizers and other components audio (simulated) using a Graphical interface.

Future of arts

The December 2nd 2004, the creator and principal developer of arts creator Westerfeld announced that it gave up the project because of a certain number of obvious problems in his design. The future of arts is thus dubious, but it is probable that it hardly any more knows of new developments and is replaced by another audio engine for KDE 4.
