Artillier

Artillier is a term of old French (coming from the roots Latin be ars , artis ) being used with the Moyen-âge to appoint the craftsmen (of the same root) manufacturers of all materials and equipment being used for the war (Lance S, sword S, armours, machines of war).

Before the 14th century and the arrival of the Gunpowder, the machines of war were the catapults S, Baliste S, Trébuchet S and Mangonneau X. As from the 15th century, the artilliers gradually replaced in their productions the preceding machines by the bombards S then the guns while continuing to be the suppliers for all the other types of equipment of war. They are then indicated like " artillery main " or " officers of artillery " - for the latter, the officer term is not that currently used in the armies but comes from what it received a royal Office.
