Arthur Ward Lindsey

Arthur Ward Lindsey is a American Entomologiste , born the January 11th 1894 with Council Bluffs in the Iowa and dead the March 8th 1963 with Lancaster in the Ohio of an heart attack.

It off makes its studies in Morningside College of Sioux City his Bachelor Arts in 1916. Collecting since any young person the butterfly S, it makes appear its first publication ( The Butterflies off Woodbury County ) in 1914.

During its doctorate, he studies celebrates it collection of William Barnes (1860-1930) with Decatur in the Illinois. He binds friendship with his conservative, in function since 1910, James Halliday McDunnough (1877-1962). In 1919, it supports its doctorate with a thesis entitled off The Hesperioidea America, North off Mexico City . The same year, it replaces McDunnough at its station of conservative, function which it will preserve until in 1921. Barnes and Lindsey make appear this year a work of revision of Pterophoridae but Lindsey is the true author.

After having taught in Morningside College, it becomes in 1922 professor and director of the department of Zoologie of the Denison University of Granville, Ohio. It preserves these functions until its departure at the retirement in 1960.

Lindsey is the author of many on the hesperioidea, in particular a revision of its thesis in 1931 under the title of Hesperiidae off North America in which Roswell Carter Williams Jr (1869-1946) takes part and Ernest Layton Bell (1876-1964). He is also the author of five handbooks of zoology like on the Génétique and the evolution. He also directs the publication, of 1945 with 1948 of the Annals off the Entomological Society off America . Its collection, rich person of 6  000 specimens and of 28 types is preserved by the Muséum Carnegie de Pittsburgh.
