In 1695, at the time of the birth of Valentine Jamerey, Arthonnay is out of Champagne, county of Thunder, baillage of Chaource; moreover Valentine Jamerey is defined as Champenois.

In 1940, Arthonnay is the theater of one of the last combat of the Battle of France.
A commemorative stele in the parochial vault honors the memory with the names of these 107 brave men including 24 soldiers of Black Africa and 11 unknown soldiers.
