Carthusian monk, bishop of Belley of 1188 - 1190 († 1206)
As of childhood, according to the legend, it was perfect. Page of the Count de Savoie, Amédée III, one never took it neither to flatter, neither to solicit, nor to lie. It had God, " what needed it other chose" , liked he to repeat. At twenty years, it left the Court of Chambéry to enter to the Chartreuse de Portes the Bugey (department of Ain). It was immediately made there like, because it chose the humblest tasks to discharge his brothers from them. The bishop of Geneva having wished to have chartreuse in his diocese, the Count de Savoie charged his old Page with carrying out this desire. Amédée III had already made build that of Hautecombe and that of Tamié. Saint Arthaud went to plant that which one asked him to base on the heights of Arvières. The Chartreuse d' Arvières was founded in 1132 per Saint Arthaud who was the first prior during many years. The population obliges it to become bishop of Belley. There will remain only two years there, very concerned about join its abbey where he dies at the age of cent-cinq years. Its relics are preserved in the mounting of the church of Lochieu.
