Artémise II

Artémise II , in Greek old Ἀρτεμισία/ Artemisía († 351 av. J. - C.), queen of Halicarnasse.

Girl of Hécatomnus, king of Decay, it marries her brother Mausole. With its death, in 353 av. J. - C., it is very affected and sets up a large tomb in its honor, the Mausolée of Halicarnasse, one of the seven wonders of the world. It also organizes a literary contest, decreeing a price with the speaker who would speak the most eloquent in praise of Mausole. Y take part, according to Aulu-Cold, Isocrate and Théopompe its pupil, which gains the contest. Always according to Aulu-Cold, supported by Valère Maxime, it goes until daily interfering in its drink ashes her late husband.

It continues nevertheless to control the Decay, invading Rhodos which revolted and which Démosthène supports, and seizing certain Greek cities of Ionie. She dies into 351, two years after Mausole.
