Biography

Finally it arrives in the first division at RC Strasbourg at the 29 years age. It disputes in particular the Cut of Europe and takes down a title of champion of France in 1979. Wenger will play as a pro more thanks to his vision of the play and with its intelligence that for its real talent. He will have played only 12 matches in 3 seasons all competitions confused.

He stops his career at 32 years to devote itself to his true vocation, that of trainer. He passes his diploma to Paris and, in 1981, the Racing Club of Strasbourg invites it to take the direction of its training center. It remains there until in 1983 before becoming trainer associated with the ACE Cannes of 1983 with 1984. It obtains its first post of principal trainer to the Sports association Nancy-Lorraine where it remains until in 1986. In 1987, he becomes trainer of the ACE Monaco, gaining the championship of France as of the first season. Of 1994 with 1996, it involves the team Japan ease of Nagoya Grampus Eight with Nagoya.

End 1996, he becomes general manager with the club of Arsenal FC with London. The London Evening Standard title then “Arsene Who? ” showing that the French technician is unknown on the other side of the channel. In 1998, it leads Arsenal to doubled Cut-Championship becoming the first foreign trainer to carry out such an exploit. In 1999, it recruits Thierry Henry which becomes with the passing of years the best player of the history of Arsenal. Symbol of a generation with Arsenal, it is seen offering a “contract to life”. Its new policy consisting in recruiting young talents proves reliable with the blossoming of the players such as Francesc Fàbregas (at 17 years), Robin van Persie (at 21 years) and well of others which succeeded in finally rising more famous cut of Europe, the Ligue of the Champions in 2006. Its team of Arsenal remains also unconquered during 49 consecutive matches in championship of England. The resignation of the vice-president of Arsenal David Dein in 2007 fed the rumor of the departure of Arsene Wenger because of the strong attachment of the two men but the Alsatian one finally prolonged its contract with Arsenal until 2011. If it applies the contract until its term, he will then become the trainer holding the record of the number of matches directed for Arsenal.
